ASA Challenge Series to Open 2007 Season at San Antonio Speedway

San Antonio, TX (October 25, 2006) – The ASA Late Model Series (ASALMS) Challenge Division Presented by GM Performance Parts will open their 2007 stock car racing season at San Antonio Speedway (SAS) on the weekend of March 2-3, 2007.

The ASALMS Challenge Series race was originally scheduled to compete at SAS on the weekend of March 30-31, 2007, but has been moved up to better accommodate an ASALMS scheduling problem at Music City Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee.

“We think it’s a great honor that the ASALMS Challenge Series will open their 2007 season at San Antonio Speedway,” SAS General Manager Rick Day said in announcing the schedule change. “That weekend is also San Antonio Speedway’s opening weekend, so we are looking forward to a great start to our 2007 season.”

“The ASA teams love to come here and we really enjoy having them here,” Day continued. “In our book the ASALMS Challenge Series is the best Late Model series in the country and we’re proud to be associated with them.”

Terry Dickerson, Owner of the management group that operates the half-mile SAS speed plant was equally enthusiastic about the change.

“Being able to schedule both the ASALMS Challenge Series season opener and our San Antonio Speedway season opener on the same weekend is huge for us,” Dickerson said. “This will kick our season off in a big way. Our pits should be jammed packed for this one since all the ASA teams from all over the country will be anxious to start the 2007 points chase off on the right foot. And it gives the speedway plenty of time get the word out about the event to all our fans and the media.”

Dickerson also added that he is working on a major sponsorship deal for the event which should attract national attention.

“We can’t share any details of the sponsorship deal at this point,” Dickerson explained, “But we should be releasing more information about it in the not too distant future.”

Area stock car fans can expect one of the most exciting SAS March lineups ever at the popular speedway. In addition to the ASALMS season opener on March 3, the always competitive United States Racing Association (USRA) Truck Series will be on hand on March 17 followed the next weekend by the low-slung, lightning quick USRA Modifieds on March 31. The Modifieds were originally scheduled for March 3, but have been rescheduled to March 31 to accommodate the ASALMS season opener.

The half-mile, high-banked San Antonio Speedway oval is the fastest short track in Texas It is located 3.5 miles south of Loop 410 on State Highway 16 South towards Poteet, near the new Toyota facility.
