USRA Modifieds and Trucks Set for Big Saturday Show at San Antonio Speedway
San Antonio, TX (June 21, 2006) – The popular United States Racing Association (USRA) Modified Series and the USRA Truck Series - two of the top stock car touring series in the Southwest - will be making their fifth appearance of the 2006 racing season at San Antonio Speedway this Saturday evening, June 24, 2006.
Both the low-slung USRA Modifieds and the very competitive USRA Trucks will be competing in 50-lap feature events at the high-banked, half-mile oval located near the new Toyota truck production facility on the city’s south side. The NASCAR Late Models will join the Modifieds and Trucks in time trials and will run their own 40-lap feature.
Also on the racing program are the SAS Sportsman, Road Runners and Grand Stocks competing in heat races and feature events.
The last time the USRA Modifieds raced at San Antonio (June 3, 2006), the top three finishers were within inches of each other at checkered flag. After some discussion among USRA officials, Ryan Engelhardt was declared the winner over defending USRA Modified champion Bruce Beddoe and Mark Chrudimsky in the closest finish in the history of the Modified Series.
Going into this event, Beddoe maintains a slim three-point lead over Billy Becka in the USRA Modified standings. Beddoe, won the USRA Modified season-opener in March, also has a 12-point margin over Chrudimsky, who won at San Antonio on April 1, 2006. Engelhardt, who missed the season opener, is currently seventh in the standings, but has to be considered among the favorites after his narrow victory earlier in June and another win on April 15, 2006.
Defending 2006 USRA Truck champion Shawn Paul Lehman of Manchaca sits atop the USRA Truck point standings in spite of not winning so far this season. Lehman, however, has earned four top-five finishes and has been the model of consistency. Steve Green, winner of the April 1 event, is only 11 points behind Lehman, while Craig Roper, the winner of the last two USRA Truck events, is only 14 points back. The other 2006 USRA Truck winner, Jody Buzbee, is 21 points behind.
“We’re expecting and increase in the car counts in all our classes,” SAS and USRA Race Director Rick Day said. “The USRA Modifieds are one of the most entertaining series around and the USRA Trucks always put on a great show at San Antonio. Our SAS fans are in for a great show this Saturday.”
The San Antonio Speedway pit gates will open at 1:00 p.m. while the grandstands open at 5:00 p.m. Time Trials will get under way at 6:00 p.m. and the fast and furious racing action will take the green flag at 7:00 p.m.
Admission is $15 for adults, $8 for Seniors and Military (with ID) and $3 for children 7-12. Children 6 and under are admitted free.
San Antonio Speedway is located at 3.5 miles south of Loop 410 on State Hwy 16 South, (towards Poteet).
