Kristin Bumbera Dominant at HMP

Houston, TX (May 8, 2006) – 18-year-old female, Kristin Bumbera, from Sealy, Texas driving the Texas Industries-sponsored 2006 Bumbera’s Performance Associates Chevy Monte Carlo, scored her first Pro Late Model Feature win of the 2006 season at Houston Motorsports Park on Saturday night May 6th.

Starting on the pole in the 50 lap feature event, Bumbera was challenged early by veteran late-model pilot Kirby Honeycutt as they kept the fans in the stands on their feet with some exciting side-by side racing on the high-banked 3/8’s mile asphalt oval. Kristin, a college freshman majoring in Psychology – Crime Scene Investigations, then took the men “back to school” by running away from Honeycutt and the rest of the field and maintaining a half-lap lead until lap 45 when the first caution flag came out.

With the field re-shuffled and early season feature winner Stephan McCurley now on her back bumper, Bumbera saw a new threat in her rear-view mirror. “I knew I needed a good restart because Stephan is no slouch”, Bumbera said in a post-race interview. He won a race here back in April by getting a good jump on a restart and I wasn’t going to let him do the same number on me”.

She didn’t and left McCurley and the rest of the field behind in the 5-lap dash for the cash and captured her first checkered flag of the 2006 season. Crew Chief and father Kenny Bumbera, veteran ASA and late model driver, was the first to greet Kristin in Victory Circle. “I don’t know who was more excited, my dad or me”, said the smiling racecar star. I know he and my mom wanted this win as much as I did. The Bumbera’s Performance Associates crew has been working overtime to get the car ready and that test and tune time really paid off”.

Kristin Bumbera now turns her attention to three upcoming races including a June 10th USRA Super Late Model Series event in Ft. Worth. She will make her first-ever super-speedway appearance at the 1-1/2 mile Texas Motor Speedway tri-oval against a field of veteran male drivers only her father has raced against before. “I’m really looking forward to that race at TMS. I was only 15 years old when my Dad first raced there and I remember how special it was for him to have made it to that level of professional racing. It’s hard to believe that only three years later, I’ve made it there too.”

The event is also of major importance to her primary sponsor Dallas-based Texas Industries who is the largest producer of cement in Texas and a top producer in California.

“We are delighted to have Kristin represent our company and our popular Maximizer cement brand at this prestigious motorsports event right in our corporate headquarters’ back yard, said Gary Lidiak. We’ve been watching Kristin blossom this season into a real racing star and her big win in Houston tells us she has a very bright future. Kristin is a great role model for other hopeful young female racers. She’s a top student, has a warm personality and she has the drive and charisma it takes to be a great racer.”
