Cowtown Clash Up Next for ASCS Sooner Region

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (September 19, 2005) Heated racing action continues for the American Bank of Oklahoma American Sprint Car Series Sooner Region this Saturday night as the series makes its final stop of the season at Kennedale's Cowtown Speedway, "The Fastest 'Lil' Dirt Track in Texas."

Sean McClelland, a Sooner Region winner at Cowtown on April 9, and Danny Jennings enter the event atop the high-banked, quarter-mile clay oval embroiled in an intense battle for the 2005 Sooner Region championship.

With five feature triumphs to his credit, Collinsville, OK, shoe McClelland currently holds a 40-point advantage over Norman's Jennings, who is seeking a second Sooner Region crown. Jennings scored his first ASCS Sooner Region title in 2002.

Hailing from Sapulpa, OK, Cody Branchcomb enters the night ranked third in points, with Tulsa's Brian McClelland and Collinsville's Foster Landon rounding out the current top five.

Derek Cottrell of Fletcher, OK, has climbed to sixth in points, with the balance of the current top ten including 2001 Sooner Region champion J.P. Bailey (Fort Worth, TX), Kerry McAlister (Mustang, OK), 16-year-old Dex Eaton (Owasso, OK) and veteran shoe Earnest Jennings (Norman, OK).

The top Sooner Region contenders will face a strong contingent of locals, led by two-time ASCS Sooner Region champion Kevin Ramey of Fort Worth, TX. Ramey will be shooting for a second consecutive ASCS Sooner Region feature win after topping Saturday night's feature at Lawton Speedway.

Among other top local shoes expected are Claud Estes, Skip Wilson, Johnny Miller and Sean Jones.

Saturday's American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region action at Cowtown Speedway is scheduled to go green at 7:00 p.m.

Cowtown Speedway is located just east of Fort Worth off I-20 Exit 442-A, then 1.7 miles southeast on Mansfield Highway, then 1.4 miles southwest on New Hope Road, then east. For more information, contact the track at 817-478-9952 or 817-572-0848.

The 2005 American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region slate consists of 20 events at nine tracks throughout Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Arkansas.

In total, including the O'Reilly ASCS National Tour, the Southern Tour and the Sooner, Gulf South, Rocky Mountain and Midwest Regions, the American Sprint Car Series will sanction nearly 100 nights of racing in 2005 at approximately 50 different racetracks throughout 18 different states.
