Texana Raceway Park – July 9 Update

The racing season at the Texana Raceway Park has reached the halfway point and the points toward the Season Championships are becoming more important with each race night. At the end of the season each division crowns a Champion based on their performance throughout the racing season. The Champions are recognized at an annual awards banquet with trophies, and receive the “bragging rights” for the following year.

Texana Raceway Park drivers that compete in the IMCA events are awarded points that could win them national, as well as local, awards at the end of the season. As each race brings new drivers to the IMCA events, the run for the Championship should heat-up during the second half of the season. At the present time, Victoria’s Micky Helms leads the Modified Division, with Bill Pittaway of Corpus Christi holding down the runner-up spot. In the IMCA Sport Mods, Vince Louden of Shiner is number one in the standings, ahead of Cuero’s Aaron Hudgeons.

Leaders at the mid-season mark in the Stock Car competition are: Rory Johnson of Victoria in the Late Models, Ken Densman of Victoria in the Super Stocks, Louise’s Monty Chamberlain in the Bomber Division, and Johnny Thomas of El Campo is the leader in the Street Stock class.

Steve Gilbert of Markham has a ten point advantage over defending track champion Mike Christians of Bay City in the popular Dwarf Car competition.

The next night of racing is scheduled for Saturday, July 16th, with the green flag to wave at 7:30 pm. The track is located 2 miles southeast of Edna, on State Highway 111.
