Richardson’s Weekend May Depend on Kentucky Rain

McKinney, TX (May 12, 2005) - As if running in the ARCA Harley Davidson Cincinnati 150 at Kentucky Speedway this Saturday (May 14) wasn’t going to be enough stress for McKinney (TX) resident Robert Richardson.

Now, the weather forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of rain on Friday and 60 percent chance of thunderstorms on Saturday. The ARCA Harley Davidson Cincinnati 150 is set to take the green flag at 2 p.m. CT on Saturday afternoon, with qualifying scheduled for Saturday morning at 8:45 a.m. CT.

“We practiced there a few weeks ago and the weather was chilly with temperatures somewhere in the 40s,” Richardson explained Thursday afternoon. “This weekend, it’s supposed to be a lot warmer (expected high temperature is 84 degrees on Friday and 71 on Saturday). The warmer weather will make for ‘loose’ cars on the track. The expected rain would really make things interesting. Not only could we be looking at possible rain delays but the rain would wash away the tire and oil on the track. That would make the track surface like new and it would be like running (qualifying and/or the race) on a new track.”

Richardson, who said his team practiced in the top 15 a few weeks ago at Kentucky, has run two previous races at the 1.5-mile tri-oval at Kentucky Speedway in the NASCAR AutoZone Southeast Elite Division Series – and with good results. Richardson claimed two Top-10 finishes in both races and qualified in the Top-5 in both.

“But,” Richardson stated, “the ARCA cars are a lot different from the Southeast Series cars we ran. You have to run a lot smoother and these cars run much more loose. Plus, we ran restrictor plates on the Southeast Series cars – that will make for a different trip around the track altogether.”

Richardson has run two ARCA RE/MAX series races this season so far, coming home with a 14th-place finish at the PFG Lester 150 at Nashville and 26TH in the ARCA RE/MAX season opener at Daytona. The Dallas native feels the #33 Victorylanegirl.com/Ford Taurus team – which includes his father, Robert Richardson Senior and crew member Ray Roberts – has a shot in the Top-15 this Saturday.

Neither the race nor qualifying will be televised live or on tape delay. Information about Richardson can be found at his web site, www.robertrichardsonracing.com.
