Texas Speedzone - HMP's Graham & David Baker receive TMS's Lanny Edwards Award

GRAHAM AND DAVID BAKER RECEIVE LANNY EDWARDS AWARD

FORT WORTH-DALLAS, TX (April 17, 2005) – Graham and David Baker, owners and promoters of Houston Motorsports Park in Houston, were named as the winners of the 2005 Lanny Edwards Award for excellence in short track race promotion. The pair were honored during a ceremony prior to Sunday’s Samsung/RadioShack 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

The Lanny Edwards Award is presented by Texas Motor Speedway and Edwards, promoter of three weekly racing facilities, to a race operation that has provided growth and a positive race experience for its fans and competitors.

The Baker brothers have owned the three-eighths mile concrete and asphalt oval track for two and a half years. The corners feature a concrete surface with the speedway’s straightaways paved with asphalt.

The pair have brought several touring series to Houston Motorsports Park including the NASCAR Autozone Elite Series and the United States Racing Association, formerly the ROMCO Late Model Series. In addition to the touring series, the Bakers utilize cost-efficient series for their local racers.

In addition to the paved oval track, the management team built a one-eighth mile NHRA dragstrip that received national recognition from the sanctioning body.

Graham Baker accepted the Lanny Edwards Award during Sunday’s ceremony.

“Graham and Daniel Baker have established a truly professional operation at Houston Motorsports Park that provides fans in the Houston area a family-friendly venue to watch big-league racing,” said Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage. “It is an honor for Lanny Edwards and our speedway to recognize their great accomplishments in short-track promotion.”
