Heart O’ Texas to host fourth annual Southern SportMod Nationals Sept. 5-6
From: September 05, 2008
To: September 06, 2008
WACO, Texas – The top guns in the class converge on Heart O’ Texas Speedway Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5-6 for the IMCA Southern SportMod Nationals.
Top prize at the fourth annual special is $2,000. Twenty-four cars will make up the main event, which pays a minimum of $200. Non-qualifiers get $150.
National and Smiley’s Racing Products state points will be awarded. As a designated regional event, the holiday show is a bonus race for drivers in the division and does not count toward the 55-race limit for points.
Gates open at 6 p.m. for a Thursday night practice session that runs from 7-9 p.m. Pit passes are $12 that evening.
Friday’s card includes heat races, “B” features and a qualifying event.
On Saturday, heats and “B” races will complete the starting field for the feature. Top drivers in point standings at tracks that have held at least 10 sanctioned Southern SportMod events this season are eligible to compete in Saturday’s $300 to win race of champions.
Pit gates and the grandstand both open at 6 p.m. Track packing starts at 7 p.m., with hot laps to follow and racing at 8 p.m. both nights.
Entry fee is $50 and pit passes are $25. Grandstand admission is $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, $2 for kids ages 6-11, and children five and under get in free.
Larry Killian of Greenville is the two-time and defending race winner.
