New Turns Tables, Holds Off Schild for TSRS win on A-Line Auto Parts "Night at the Races“ at 11th Annual "Texas Stock Car Spectacular"
Kyle, TX (October 1, 2007) – Two weeks ago in the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) "Operation Interdependence 75" late model race, 2005 champion Chris Schild held off 2007 points leader Bobby Joe New for the win. Saturday night, with the strongest field of cars this season at Thunderhill for the Texas Super Racing Series (TSRS) "Texas Stock Car Spectacular 75," New returned the gesture, holding off Schild after early leader Joe Aramendia suffered a flat tire and faded to 11th.
Thirty late models were in the pits for practice, with 28 starting the race following a couple of mechanical withdrawals including the loss of defending TSRS champion Tommy Gural of Elgin, but Gural's wife, Teresa, upheld the family honor by finishing seventh against by far the strongest field of the 2007 season in front of one of the largest crowds of the year.
The A-Line Auto Parts Super Stock series also started the largest field of the year, with 20 of the 22 cars on hand making the feature race. Mark Mathias of San Antonio held off San Marcos driver Cary Stapp for the win, with David Webster of Spring in third. Both Stapp and Spring had broken the lap record in qualifying, with Stapp taking the new record five minutes after Webster had broken Stapp's old record.
Texas Pro Sedans rookie Ja Lane of Houston came into the race with three wins in his Ford Focus and the rookie of the year title locked up, but still 11 points shy of Sergio Hexsel in the title chase. He nipped at the lead, getting three bonus points for setting a lap record in qualifying and won the race, but Hexsel finished second to take the title by just four points.
