USRA Appearance moved from Corpus Christi to San Antonio
San Antonio, TX (July 26, 2006) – The United States Racing Association (USRA) is changing the location for the August 19 races that were originally scheduled to be held at Corpus Christi Motor Speedway.
The USRA Super Late Models, Modifieds and Trucks will be racing at San Antonio Speedway instead of Corpus Christi Speedway on August 19. The Texas Pro Sedans will also move their race to San Antonio Speedway on August 19.
Earlier in the year, an agreement was made with Corpus Christi Motor Speedway to schedule a USRA race on August 19. After the original agreement was made, track management changed and the Yocum family took possession of the speedway, making the original agreement no longer valid. Several conversations have taken place between USRA and the Yocum family to negotiate another agreement, but the Yocums have declined any offers. The new managers felt it was necessary to “get a few races under their belts” with the local classes before bringing in any other series races or classes.
“We know that some of the drivers and fans will be disappointed about the change, and we really wanted to see our USRA drivers race at Corpus,” said Rick Day, USRA President and General Manager. “Although the USRA staff has tried to meet its commitments with the drivers and fans, the final decision rests in the hands of the hosting track. We understand that the Yocum family needs some time to adjust to the reopening of Corpus Christi Speedway, and we wish them our best. And we certainly want to keep our options open for any future races.”
The full program for the August 19 race will include the USRA Super Late Models, Modifieds and Trucks, along with the Texas Pro Sedans. The racing action will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Admission for the August 19 race at San Antonio Speedway is $20 for adults, $10 for Senior/Military with ID and $3 for children 7-12. Children 6 and under are free.
San Antonio Speedway is the only NASCAR sanctioned short-track in the state of Texas. It is located 3.5 miles south of Loop 410 on State Highway 16 South towards Poteet, near the new Toyota facility.
