For Immediate Release – July 11, 2006 Contact: Nick Holt, USRA Media Director (210) 415-1251 (cell) cnholt@sbcglobal.net nick@texasspeedzone.com USRA Modifieds and Trucks Set for Second THR Visit this Weekend San Antonio, TX (July 11, 2006) - The United States Racing Association (USRA) Modified Series and the USRA Truck Series - two of Texas’ top touring series - will be returning for their second visit of the season to Thunder Hill Raceway (THR) in Kyle, Texas, this Saturday evening, July 15, 2006. Both of the highly competitive USRA series boast some of the top short track drivers in the region and will joining the popular Texas Super Racing Series to make it a full racing program at the three-eighth-mile –D-shaped oval. The USRA Modifieds will be competing in the “TexasSpeedZone.Com 75” while the USRA Trucks will get after it in the “Magnum Trailers 50.” USRA Modified Series rookie Ryan Engelhardt, who won at THR in April and again at San Antonio in early June to become the only two-time winner this season in the highly competitive modified series, currently sits in seventh position in the modified point standings. Engelhardt will face some tough competition from USRA Modified Series points leader Mark Chrudimsky, winner of the April 1, 2006, 50-lapper at San Antonio Speedway. Front-runner Billy Becka, who took the season opener at SAS in March and sits second in the points only nine points behind Chrudimsky, will surely make his presence known as will defending USRA Modified Series champion Bruce Beddoe, who has yet to win this season but has several second-place finishes, veteran John Heil, who won three-weeks ago at San Antonio and sixteen year-old rookie Trey Mitchell, who ran well at San Antonio Speedway last until he lost a rear tire and ended up in the wall. One of Thunder Hill Raceway’s favorite Street Stock drivers and the winner of many events at THR – Bobby Teer – will be making his USRA Modified debut and is expected to do well due to his extensive experience at the track. “We’ve been planning on running the Modified Series for some time and finally have put it all together,” Teer said. “We love racing in the Street Stock division at THR, but we feel it’s time to move up and give something else a try. I’m sure there will be a learning curve – these guys are all very good racers.” USRA Truck Series hotshoe Craig Roper will be trying to extend his three-race winning streak, but Steve Green, who convincingly won the USRA Truck feature in April at San Antonio, as well as rookie Jody Buzbee of Waco, winner of the season-opener, should give Roper a run for the checkered in this Saturday’s 50-lap feature. Jim Albert, Rusty Mirth and Brent Bell are all near the top of the point standings and should be counted among the favorites. Also appearing on the full racing program will be the THR local classes - Hobby Stocks, Street Stocks and Grand Stocks – as well as the Texas Super Racing Series Late Models in their Operation Interdependence 75, the Lone Star Allison Legacy Series and the fun-to-watch NASKARTS. Saturday’s racing action is set to take the green flag at 5:00 PM. For more information about the United States Racing Association, visit http://www.usraspeed.com.
