Effective immediately, the so-called “All-involved” rule will be replaced with the “Judgment-call” rule. Instead of automatically sending the cars involved in bringing out a caution period to the rear, race officials will now decide who gets sent to the rear of the pack based on what they observe during the race. “We do not feel the ‘All-involved’ rule was a bad way to call races,” USRA Race Director Rick Day said in making the announcement, “But we feel the ‘Judgment-call’ policy will better suit the current needs of our competitors.” Also effective immediately, the following tire rule changes are being made for the USRA touring series and the San Antonio Speedway NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series classes: 1. USRA Super Late Models – The tire rules will remain in effect as stated, with one exception. Although the same four tires used in qualifying must be used to start the race, competitors may elect at any time to change two tires during a caution period. 2. USRA Modifieds, USRA Trucks, San Antonio Speedway Late Model, Sportsman and Road Runner Classes – All tires must be the American Racer brand, embossed with the USRA logo, serial numbered and purchased through Oval Components in San Antonio. However, the tires will not have to be registered to a specific driver. Competitors may buy or sell tire takeoffs to or from other drivers. “We’ve heard a lot of suggestions and comments from our fans and drivers about our facilities and rules, and we do value their input,” Day continued. “So, we’re making these changes because we feel they will help our racing program. These changes will take a bit of adjustment by all of us and we realize that drivers may not always like our calls. But, we’ll do everything we can to be fair to everyone.” “The tire rule change should really help our lower-budgeted teams and will not negatively impact the racing budgets for any of our competitors,” Day added. “This should be cost effective for all teams since some will be able to deplete their inventory and at the same time help their fellow racers obtain tires economically. ” For more information on the United States Racing Association, please visit the USRA three touring series’ website at http://www.usraspeed.com.
