Monday – October 2nd Texana Raceway Park - Update- Race Results By Bill Morris Race Fans and drivers returned to the Texana Raceway Park following a month of weather related postponements. The regular competitors were joined by a handful of new drivers from as far away as the Dallas area, bringing the total number of entries to 88. The dirt track action continued to provide fans with close, competitive, and exciting racing action. The Hot Stock Trucks were short on numbers, but long on excitement as the top two trucks ran much of the feature event side by side, swapping the lead until the final lap when Inez’s Bob Ort pulled ahead of Victoria’s Darryl Davis to take the checkered flag. Sixteen Dwarf Cars took the green flag to start their 20-lap feature event. The action was fast and became furious when points leader Steve Gilbert, of Markham, slammed the third turn wall, doing enough damage to put him out for the evening and hurting his effort to be the 2005 Dwarf Car track champion. San Antonio’s Dave Tedford held off a final turn challenge from Wallace’s Frank Furia to take top honors in a very competitive event. Brad Hayes, of Victoria, did a double shift winning the Street Stock feature over Austin’s AJ Dancer. Hayes, using the same car, then moved up a class to finish third in the Super Stock action behind winner Ken Densman of Victoria. In the IMCA modified competition Aaron Hudgeons of Cuero made a daring late race pass on Corpus’s nick Hardcastle to earn a victory lap. In the Sports Mods it was newcomer Brad Ball of Highland leading the field to the checkered flag. In other action it was Kevin Magura of Victoria leading the Late Model from Green to Checker. The Champion Racing Team, out of the Alvin area, placed two drivers in the winners circle. Kassey Champion earned top honors in the Mini-Stock feature, while teammate Joey Champion captured the win in the Bomber Feature. With only two nights of racing remaining in the 2005 racing season he final run for top honors in many of the classes are still “up for grabs”. Make plans to enjoy the final two racing programs at the Texana Raceway Park, located 3 miles southeast of Edna, on state Highway 111. Gates open at 6:00pm the first race scheduled for 7:30.
