Texana Raceway Park - Update - July 4 Texana Raceway Park officials reported a record number of both competitors and fans for their first two-day race event. Friday night's program included main events for both the Mini-Stocks and the Hot Stock Trucks, while the Dwarf Cars and the Stock Cars all raced in qualifying heats to determine their starting positions in the Saturday night main events. Saturday night fans filled the grandstands, making it the largest crowd to attend an event at the raceway this season, and it may have been the biggest ever. The drivers responded to the large crowd by providing close competition in all the extended main events. The laps added to the main events caused an increase in mechanical problems, with some of the regular front runners leaving the track early or being relegated to lower than usual finishing positions. The Dwarf cars lined up their main event with the heat winners at the back. The fast cars in the rear made for an exiciting event. Frank Furia continued his winning streak from his starting position as the last car to take the green flag. Furia passed the full starting field just after the halfway mark and was challenged all the way to the checkered. In the Bomber Division, Monty Chamberlain was making it look easy and was on his way to the victory lane, when, with a just a few laps remaining, his engine expired, putting him out of the event. Jonathan Arterberry inherited the lead and finished to take top honors in the 30-lap event. During intermission fans were entertained and amazed by the antics of Reptoid, the Monster Truck, as it crushed a normal passenger car and launched high in the air over other cars parked in the infield. The intermission was also the highlight of the evening for 20 youngsters who took home new bicyles as part of a bike giveaway sponsored by the track and the race drivers. Aaron Hudgeons put an end to Vince Louden's six race winning streak in the Sports Mod Division. After putting a borrowed ride in the Sports Mod winner's circle, Hudgeons climbed into his own car and finished second to winner Mike McCarthy in the IMCA Modified main event. The added prize money brought a number of new drivers to Texana Raceway Park for the first time for the holiday event. A number of them were delighted with the facility and the racing and indicated that they would return to race in future events. The next racing program is scheduled for July 16.
