Waco, TX (May 25, 2008) - Memorial Day weekend ended with the ASCS Gulf South Region Sprint Cars on the 1/4 high-banked Heart O' Texas Speedway, just north of Waco. Twenty-nine, winged warriors signed in to compete for 20 starting spots, and the $2,000 to win top prize. To memorialize the night's action, Sgt. Ted Meyer presented the track with a flag flown at a memorial service for three Ft. Hood soldiers killed while on patrol in Iraq. Capt. Torre Mallard, Sgt. Phillip Anderson and Spc. Donald Burkett members of the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Army Calvary Regiment were also race fans and Heart O' Texas Speedway spectators
Hall Hustles to First Ever ASCS Victory
Despite having an AWOL crew, who were off four-wheeling for the holiday weekend, Ryan Hall showed the field nothing but his tail tank, if they were close enough to see it. Hall, who drew the pole, got out front, stretched his lead, held off Greg Rilat on restarts, and won by a full straightaway for his inaugural ASCS checkered flag.
After their three-wide salute to the fans, 20 ASCS Gulf South Region Sprint Cars lined up for the 25-lap main even with Hall and Rilat on the front row. Hall grabbed the lead on green, while Gary Watson and Travis Evans slowed in the pack. Debris on the front stretch and a spin by Brandon Berryman in turn 3 brought out the yellow on lap 1. On the restart, Saturday night's winner, Chris Sweeney and Bean Elliott made contact in mid-pack, but were able to sort out and continue without caution.
By lap 3, Hall was showing his dominant form easing away from Rilat, Coby Barksdale and Claud Estes. Joshua Henby brought out the red when he flipped in turn 3 collecting Berryman and Tommy Bryant, who both had to pit for wing repairs. Henby was uninjured in the crash. Once back to green, Hall eased away from Rilat and Barksdale, stretching his advantage to nearly a full straightaway when caution waved on lap 12 from Bryant stopped in turn 2, and Channin Tankersley stopped in turn 4.
Back under green, Hall led the field to halfway with Rilat, Barksdale, Estes and Skip Wilson rounding out the top five. Just like the B-main, Kevin Ramey was on the charge challenging Johnny Miller for sixth after starting in row 9. Berryman was also trying to make up spots battling with B. Elliott for ninth. With five laps to go, with Hall holding a half straight advantage, Barksdale and Wilson made contact fighting for third. Wilson did a half spin, toured the infield and came back on track still running fifth. As the white flag was shown, Hall had increased his lead on Rilat to a full straightaway once again easily cruising to the win in his Valvoline Express Care, T&M Well Service, Harry Baldicini powered, Maxim Chassis
“ I'm on cloud nine right now. You couldn't ask for a finer facility to win your first ASCS show,” replied the jubilant Hall. “I love coming down here. Running with the Gulf South guys, is great, they're a good group of people. We like running with them and try to race whenever we can.”
“A lot of it was starting out front. Being able to have the right set up and hit my marks. The cautions helped keep us out of lapped traffic. Anytime you have guys like (Greg) Rilat, (Kevin) Ramey and the others, you always wonder when and where they're coming from. All I could do was concentrate on hitting my marks. I was fortunate to be able to keep it out front and pick up our first win.”
“I never knew how big of a lead I had. I didn't know if they were on my bumper or what. They was a couple times I missed my marks. I wondered if someone was going to try to dive under me.”
“My crew is in Arkansas four-wheeling. I was going to go to Willis last night, but the car wasn't ready. I took last night and to get it ready. I've got some great friends here. Rodney Henderson, Scott Reneau and Brian Parker all chipped in to help me out tonight. Dave Monday from Sprint Car Exchange also helped us out. This is too much work so I won't let my crew take off all the time. I'm soaking wet and wouldn't have to worry about catching on fire. I think I lost 10 pounds. I'm surprised I made weight at the scales.”

The ASCS B-main had thirteen cars fighting for the final six transfer spots with Tommy Bryant and John Ricketts leading the pack to green. Bryant quickly jumped out front going into turn one. Once the field sorted out, the only charger was Kevin Ramey, who had trouble in his heat race forcing him to run the “B”.
Ramey, who started outside the last transfer spot, was on the hunt getting a top six spot early. Ramey then continued to march forward getting fourth from Aaron Reutal on lap 4, then passing Terry Monroe on lap 7 for third. Meanwhile, up front Bryant was well on his way to the checkers.
