(Kyle, TX) April 12, 2008 - Thunderhill Raceway opens its season Saturday night with six classes on the D-shaped, 3/8-mile oval.

Qualifying time trails are scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and the races start at 7 p.m. Headlining the racing action will be the Pro Truck, Pro Modified and Texas Pro Sedans. Also competing in their first race of the season will be the THR A-Line Super Stocks, Thunder Stocks and Grand Stock classes. The JRA Kids Club will also hold bike races for children during intermission. The Texas Pro Sedans will be making their first of eight scheduled races a THR this season. The TPS racing format will consist of qualifying time trials followed by a 25-lap feature race. Neil Upchurch, race administrator and director for the TPS, said many of the cars that competed in the first TPS race, held on March 29 at Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, will also be competing at THR this weekend. A field of 23 drivers has entered, Upchurch said. Headlining the list is Lalo Leal of Corpus Christi, six-time TPS champion Bill LaBarge of Bryan, Jesse Sandoval of Corpus Christi, Mike Merrell of Kingsland and Mike Knotts of Universal City. Defending TPS champion Sergio Hexsel of Live Oak and 2007 rookie of the year winner Ja Lane of Katy will both be competing in the event. Hexsel won three TPS races at THR last season.
